About

A NEW platform for film

Established in 2024, LEEDSflix is a contest for filmmakers, screenwriters and students based in Yorkshire and from around the globe. The competition is judged by experienced industry professionals with specialisms in film production, education, training, screenwriting and production.

LEEDSflix is based in north Leeds, a mere stroll away from the site of the first ever recorded film, ‘The Roundhay Garden scene’ shot by pioneer Louis Le Prince. We seek to honour his memory by championing filmmakers and screenwriters worldwide.

LEEDSflix is looking for independent projects from all genres and all countries, especially from those under represented in the global film market. We have room for the no budget, the cult, the experimental and the outlandishly eccentric.

RECOGNISING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Leeds is a big student city and its status as a creative and filmmaking hub means a vibrant scene locally, with high-quality submissions from the cohort.

CATEGORIES AND PRIZES

Held in seasons, we hold quarterly screenings and awards events featuring our competition winners.

There are categories for short films and documentaries, and short scripts, with laurels for Winners, Finalists and Nominees.

WHO ARE WE?

LEEDSflix is run by an award-winning screenwriter/producer and a pioneering University Film Lecturer, supported by invited filmmaking educators and professionals.

WHERE ARE WE BASED?

LEEDSflix holds screenings at the Roundhay Parochial Hall, in Oakwood, North Leeds. We can squeeze up to 35 people into the room and more often than not we reach capacity, so reserving tickets in advance is vital.

Our screenings start at 7pm and wrap up by 9pm. We have an intermission during the screening, allowing filmmakers to network. As champions of short film, this is where connections are made.
